Anyone who likes crocheting, baking or sewing knows the creative books with the "TOPP" logo on the front. Behind this, as well as behind the websites topp-kreativ.de and busse-seewald.de, is frechverlag, a publisher in Stuttgart. Online shops offer more than 1,800 items for the TOPP and Busse Seewald brands. Using eF|CommerceEngine, the company has optimised its end-customer logistics and taken it into its own hands. Here, some typical publishing characteristics were taken into account.
The company frechverlag, founded in 1955, enjoys a leading position in the field of creative leisure books. In order to be able to supply customers faster and understand the logistical process in-house, frechverlag decided to implement its system optimisation with eFulfilment's CommerceEngine. "We were looking for software that combines the online shop, logistics, resource planning system and payment service provider as a central port,” says Saskia Templin, Head of Online at frechverlag. "With the eF|CommerceEngine, we have found a solution that adapts itself to our specific needs in a tailor-made way.”
Shop with the control centre
Centralised software for all processes of modern commerce was supposed to meet the complex requirements of end-customer logistics. A task that comprehensively covers eF|CommerceEngine as an order management function. The CommerceEngine has a real-time interface, which controls the data exchange between the process engine and the online publishing software Pondus. The engine refines the information of the Pondus software in order to make it available to the customer in an appropriate form. The online store can obtain article master data, inventory, shipping information and other relevant data from the eF|CommerceEngine without delay. The publisher’s employees must only enter the product data, including the author information, once at a central location.
Special features are shown at frechverlag in the product types. In addition to the inventory-managed items, the software must, for example, manage the pre-orders for about 200 new releases per year, for bundles and gift sets as well as for digital goods. Digital content includes e-books as well as videos for streaming. For the logic of the online shop, this means falling back on other processes depending on the product type.
Authors and free copies
In publishing, there are a variety of special requirements: For example, authors are included as an additional factor and are accordingly associated with items. Thanks to their openness to technology and variety of ports in their solution, eFulfilment has also been able to develop a process for processing the author details within the e-business software. The sales process for digital goods and the dispatch service are also improving for frechverlag with the CommerceEngine.
In addition, the eFulfilment team also developed processes to support free copy management and to provide review copies. The background to this is that the items taken from the store for marketing purposes may not appear in the sales report. Nevertheless, they must be appropriately trackable. With the help of an additional distribution channel, eFulfilment employees created the targeted solution.
The fact that the engine also handles the supplier reorders makes the use of the platform an all-round concept. And even if the teams of the software house are not specialists in manual work: They did not lack the imagination and attention to detail when adapting the software for Kreativ-Verlag.
